Mama of 2,
Lover of Stories
A little bit about me. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Mother of 2 littles, Wife, Reader, Traveler, Midwestern, Half Filipino, and Crafter (when I can). Most importantly I am a LISTENER and lover of STORIES. For the past 14 years, I have followed people's journeys and been a part of their stories. I am passionate about helping people understand their story and beginning to live in it. We can choose to live in our life or watch life pass us by, our culture of technology and fast-paced life-style makes that all too easy. I want people to choose PRESENCE, if that is what you are looking for, then I invite you to consider meeting with me.
Here is some of my experience, so you know where I'm coming from. I started practicing social work 15 years ago, after I fell in love watching and learning from social workers who were changing lives in the Philippines. I started work by training adults in the process of becoming foster parents. After graduating and obtaining my Masters in International Social Work, I worked in a residential home for children and teens with a range of diagnoses (Autism, ODD, Anxiety, Depression, Bi-Polar, Personality Disorders, Developmental and Cognitive Delays, etc.). Next, I helped women dealing with a history of domestic violence and sexual assault. I spend the last 6 years prior to moving to South Carolina, in Illinois as a Director of Secondary Services, at a therapy school for children and teens with Autism. Since moving to the Lowcountry, I have been working at outpatient clinics for behavioral and addiction/trauma issues. I have had the great fortune of having my career evolve through to different communities over time. More than anything this has taught me EMPATHY and UNDERSTANDING.
I've received trainings in the following: 40 hour domestic violence, 20 hour civil court training, CPI (crisis prevention institute previous trainer), PCMA (professional crisis management previous trainer), Brene Brown's curriculum on Vulnerability, Courage, Shame, and Empathy, Cognitive Behavioral Training (CBT), TF-CBT (Trauma focused). I've trained on several of these topics as well. I also have had much experience with the special education system in school and home based settings.
Enough about me, here is what I hope to provide for you. TIME dedicated to your needs and what YOU want out of therapy. SPACE to feel safe and that you BELONG. UNDERSTANDING to what you might be experiencing and hopefully ANSWERS to what you are looking for. If these are things you are interested in, then again I encourage you to get in touch with me.
